MY INTEREST IN ROWAN'S FLIGHT SIM:-

MY INTEREST IN ROWAN'S FLIGHT SIM:-

With various interests in the Battle of Britain for longer than I care to remember, I followed the development of the power and potential of pc's and flight sims longing for the day when the required spec was reached to enable a definitive Battle of Britain sim to hit the shelves. My first experience of the Battle in a 3D environment saw myself getting hours of pleasure from early sims covering the subject such as 'Their Finest Hour' and 'Reach for the Sky', together with a lot of imagination adding the missing graphical quality!

The Battle of Britain Film totally changed my life, I left the cinema in awe at the sheer visual spectacle of brown/green spitfires and hurricanes peeling away down towards the white cliffs of the south coast and mass formations of aircraft embroiled in battle on high. The flight simulation of an Me109E chase across the sea and up over cliffs at the IWM at Duxford, England helped fuel my longing for a decent pc sim. I find the Battle scenes very photogenic.

I shall be happy, I said, when the flight sim comes along that will enable me to pursue a lone Me109E across the glistening sea, rise up over the white cliffs and chase it on up through the valleys of Kent amongst the trees. Its been a long wait to experience that Battle of Britain film thrill again but Rowans Battle of Britain flight sim is the first to deliver that, certainly in a visually spectacular way, especially once the add-ons of its band of devotees are introduced. There is also the extra bonus of being able to take command of the Ops Room, watching and controlling the plots and other tactical considerations, scrambling, standing down etc the units involved. I am also a keen European Air War flyer as this sim was the first to do the Battle in an acceptable manner and I still prefer its cockpits to those in Rowan for the authentic look.
